33 Contemporary Gallery's First Florida Exhibition Draws Crowd: Interplay Explores the Boundaries of Geometric Abstraction

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Lake Worth, FL – August 10, 2024 – 33 Contemporary Gallery is delighted to announce the successful opening of Interplay: Contemporary Geometric Abstraction, its first official exhibition in Florida since relocating from Chicago last November. Held at the Palm Beach Art & Design Showroom, the opening reception on August 8th attracted over 100 attendees, including local artists and art enthusiasts, as well as many participating artists who traveled from as far as Argentina and Scotland to be part of this exciting event.

Curated by Sergio Gomez, Interplay features the work of 49 artists from around the globe, including Ukraine, Canada, Scotland, France, Germany, Spain, the UK, Argentina, Italy, and across the United States. The exhibition showcases a wide array of innovative approaches to geometric abstraction, making it a must-see for art enthusiasts and collectors alike.

During the opening, Sergio Gomez spoke about the gallery’s journey, emphasizing the significance of this exhibition as their first major event in Florida. He highlighted the gallery’s commitment to fostering a diverse and dynamic art community, stating, “This move from Chicago to Florida marks an exciting new chapter for 33 Contemporary Gallery, and we are thrilled to kick it off with such an inspiring and globally connected exhibition.”

Two standout sales were made during the opening reception, including Segun Caezar’s piece titled Adigun, 2024 (Acrylic and Oil on Canvas, 36 × 36 in.), which celebrates the richness and diversity of Black identity. Caezar’s work, inspired by the De Stijl movement, combines realistic portraits with geometric forms and primary colors, creating a powerful visual language that amplifies the narrative of each subject.

Another significant sale was Asandra’s The Portal of Light, 2024 (Acrylic and Silver Leaf on Wood Panel, 30 × 30 in.), a piece reflecting her deep connection with the spiritual realm. Asandra’s work is known for its meditative qualities, blending patterns, symbols, and geometry to evoke realities beyond the mundane world.

Due to the positive reception and high level of interest, the exhibition has been extended for an additional month, now running through September 30, 2024. This extension provides more time for the local community and visiting collectors to experience the exceptional works on display.
